What background removal does

Background removal separates the main subject of a photo from everything behind it, and returns the subject on a transparent background. Bacon's Background Remover does this on the server using an AI image model, then hands the result back to your browser to download or keep editing.

Supported files

JPG, PNG, and WebP images. Large photos are scaled down before they are sent, so a phone-sized photo works without hitting an upload limit.

Transparency is kept

The result comes back as a PNG with a real alpha channel. Download it as PNG or WebP and the transparent area stays transparent. JPG has no transparency at all, so a JPG copy would fill those areas with a solid colour instead.

One credit per image

Each removal uses one AI credit. You will see how many you have before it runs, and a removal that fails does not spend one.

Doing this more than once?

Removing one background is a quick job. Removing a hundred is a process — and that is what Bacon Workflows are for. Remove background is a Workflow step, so you can save it together with a resize, a white canvas, centring, and an export, then run the same sequence on the next photo without setting anything up again.

Product Photo Workflow

The starter Workflow that cuts out the product, squares the canvas, centres it, and exports a WebP — the exact sequence an ecommerce listing needs. See how Workflows work.

Then resize or compress

Once the background is gone, set exact dimensions with the Image Resizer, or shrink the file with the Image Compressor.

Keep designing

Open the cut-out in the full Bacon editor to add a new background, text, or a logo on top.

Common questions

How do I remove a background from an image?

Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP image and select Remove background. Bacon separates the subject from what is behind it and returns the image with a transparent background, ready to download or edit.

Does Bacon preserve transparency?

Yes. The result has a real alpha channel and downloads as PNG or WebP with the transparency intact.

What file format should I download?

PNG for the widest compatibility, WebP for a smaller file. Both keep transparency. JPG cannot, so it would flatten the transparent area against a solid colour.

Can I remove backgrounds from product photos?

Yes — it is the most common use. For a whole catalogue, use the same removal as a step in a Workflow so every photo is treated identically.

Does Background Remover use AI credits?

Each removal uses one credit, shown before it runs. A failed removal does not spend one.

Can I use background removal in a Workflow?

Yes. Remove background is a Workflow step, and runs the same way there as it does here.
