What this actually does

Bacon's Image Upscaler enlarges an image using smoothed canvas interpolation, done progressively — one 2× pass at a time — plus a light contrast and saturation boost to recover some of the sharpness interpolation loses. It is honest about what it is: a resize-and-polish. It is not the kind of AI model that invents believable new detail, and Bacon does not claim it is. For a modest size increase it looks clean. For a very blurry or heavily compressed source, upscaling makes it bigger, not sharper than the original detail allows.
